I always love going to Somerville’s annual HONK! parade! A colorful, musical, magical collection of activist marching bands marches from Davis Square to Harvard Square on Sunday afternoon, ending up at Oktoberfest. This year I was particularly interested and impressed by all the elaborate puppetry. Here are just a few of the wonderful costumes and creations that made their way down Mass Ave.

This past weekend, I wandered around Jamaica Plain Open Studios and found some great art! Here is just a sampling of what I saw, which was just a small part of the event that stretched all across JP!
I attended the New England Zine Fest this weekend. The Boston Hassle organized the event that took place on August 16th at the Cambridge YMCA. It was great to see so many members of the Zine scene showing their work and I took the opportunity to score some swag.
I stopped by the Howard Art Project in Dorchester on Friday to check out the opening of Perma-F(r)ail. Curated by Timothy Amundson and Jessica Borusky, the show features the work of about two dozen creators, all interrogating the concept of persona within art making practice.
I have the pleasure of being included in “State of Being” at the Piano Craft Gallery in the South End this month. I attended the opening reception on Friday and was very impressed with the caliber of work in the show. The exhibition, curated by Danielle Festa, is billed as “A Collection of Figurative and Portrait Art” and features paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photographs exploring the idea of the individual. The work ranges from the abstract to the specific, covering a wide amount of ground while still staying tightly curated. Pictured below are a few of my favorites, but I invite you to stop by the gallery to check out this highly enjoyable show. The show is up until July 27.
I’m vacationing in Vermont with family this week, but any vacation I’m on usually includes some art! We spent the morning at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, which is home to a museum, galleries, and a sculpture garden.
Check out my run down of some great exhibits I saw at 450 Harrison Ave this First Friday! You can read all about it over on the Boston Hassle.
Sorry for the radio silence last week! I was traveling to Ohio to watch my sister compete in the USA Ultimate Frisbee Nationals! Here’s a special post coming at you from Mason, OH to make up for it!
